Funchal is the chief city on the island of Madeira. It is the third largest Portuguese city. It is located on the southern coast of Madeira island. Funchal exports wine, wickerwork, embroidery, fruit, fish & dairy products and has an international airport.[1]

History

Funchal was founded by Portuguese navigator João Gonçalves Zarco in 1421. Funchal was held by Spanish from 1580-1640 and was under control of British in early 19th century.[1]
