A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Ewesley from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "EWESLEY, a township in Nether Witton parish, Northumberland; on the river Pont, 5¼ miles S of Rothbury. Acres: 932. Population: 19. Houses: 4."
Ewesley was a township in the chapelry of Netherwitton which was originally in Hartburn ancient parish. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1955 it was part of Rothbury Rural District. In 1955 the civil parish was abolished and the area was absorbed into the parish of Nunnykirk.
