East Tytherley is a small village civil parish in the Test Valley District of Hampshire.

The village was given to Queen Philippa by her husband Edward III in 1335. When the Black Death spread through London around 1350 she moved her court to the village.

In more recent history William Fothergill Cooke (1806-1879) invented the first commercial electrical telegraph whilst living in the village.

East Tytherley was in the Stockbridge Rural District from 1894 until 1932, and in the Romsey and Stockbridge Rural District from 1932 until 1974. Since 1974 the parish has been in the Test Valley District of Hampshire.
