The civil parish of Dunton was formed in 1935 from three small civil parishes which were abolished: Dunton cum Dougton (area: 1747 acres. population in 1931: 165), Shereford (area: 872 acres. population in 1931: 97) and Toft Trees (area: 1222 acres. population in 1931: 72). It was a civil parish within Walsingham Rural District until 1974 when it became part of the non-metropolitan North Norfolk District of Norfolk, England. (Source: A Vision of Britain through Time)
