Deaf Hill is a village in County Durham, in England. It is situated a short distance to the east of Trimdon Colliery. The origin of the name is not known. The alternative name for the village is Trimdon Station. Locally Deaf Hill is thought to have been called Death Hill. People believed if children were passed through the fork of a sycamore tree they would be cured of diphtheria, inevitably they died and the spot was called Death Hill. The name was changed as more people settled there. This was something told to me as a child, I'm not sure how factual it is.
