From the Gazetteer for Scotland:

"A small settlement in Eskdale, Dumfries and Galloway, Davington lies on the White Esk, 6 miles (10 km) south of Ettrick. A meteorological observatory was built near here in 1904-07, taking advantage of the clear, unpolluted country air and is today known as the Eskdalemuir Observatory."

Davington was located in the parish of Eskdalemuir in Dumfriesshire in Scotland. This area is now part of the unitary authority called the Dumfries & Galloway Council Area.
