Crosshill is a village developed around 1800. It is 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Maybole and was located in the parish of Kirkmichael, now in South Ayrshire. It was associated with hand-loom weaving and attracted many Irish immigrants. Its population is now about 500 people (based on the 2001 census--the latest available).
