Colvend is currently considered to be a hamlet, but its population in the 1881 census was over 1,000. It is located to the south of the White Loch and 5 miles (8km) southeast of Dalbeattie. Colvend was situated in the parish of Colvend and Southwick in the former County of Kirkcudbrightshire in southwest Scotland. It was considered to be the primary of the two communities. This area is now part of the unitary authority called the Dumfries & Galloway Council Area. [edit] Research TipsRefer to the parish of Colvend and Southwick |
