A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Clayton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"CLAYTON, a township in Stoke-upon-Trent parish, Stafford[shire]; adjacent to the Northwestern railway, 2 miles SW of Stoke. Population: 149. Houses: 30."

Clayton is situated to the south of the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme and west of Stoke, one of the original parishes that made up Stoke-on-Trent when it was established in 1910. It was absorbed into Stoke-on-Trent in 1922. Co-ordinates from GENUKI.
