  • "CHAMBLY BASIN, a flourishing post village in Chambly co., Que., pleasantly situated on the Richelieu River, between the west side of the St. Johns Canal and Montreal River (a small stream), and on the Montreal, Portland & Boston Ry., under the management of the C.P.R., 15 miles from Montreal. It possesses extensive water-power, and contains a large hospital, under the direction of the Grey Nuns, a good college, 2 telegraph agencies, 3 churches, English, Roman Catholic and Methodist, 1 woollen factory, shovel factory, leather factory, 3 flour and carding mills, 1 saw mill, 6 hotels, and 10 stores. Pop. 879."
