Casamanza is a small town near Perugia, the Capital Town of Umbria,Italy. Its name was already in use in the year 1163 and it changed slightly over the time (originally Casamansa, later Casa Mança-1258,Casamançe-1260,Casamanze-1282). It comes from the words "Casa"(house) and "Mansio"(manor),due to the presence of a two-tower house manor, still existing and today named "Il Palazzaccio", near the ancient Parish Church of S.Maria delle Croci, now a ruin.In 1571,the Parish of Casamanza was the largest Parish outside the Perugia walls, counting 300 families.
