Carn Brea (Cornish: Karn Bre) is a civil parish and hilltop site in Cornwall, England. The population of Carn Brea was 8,013 at the 2011 census. In the same year the population of the Camborne-Redruth urban area, which also includes Carn Brea, Illogan and several satellite villages, stood at 55,400 making it the largest conurbation in Cornwall. The hilltop site is situated approximately one mile (1.6 km) southwest of the centre of Redruth. The settlements of Bosleake, Brea, Broad Lane, Carn Arthen, Carn Brea Village, Carnkie, Four Lanes, Grillis, Illogan Highway, Pencoys, Penhallick, Piece, Pool, Tolskithy, Tregajorran, Treskillard, Tuckingmill and West Tolgus are in the modern parish.

Another description from the website of Carn Brea Parish Council

"The Parish of Carn Brea, which is also known as the electoral area of Illogan South, lies between the twin towns of Camborne and Redruth. The boundaries include several villages, hamlets and rural areas as well as the urban area of Pool and Illogan Highway. The southern boundary is the village of Four Lanes, to the east Carnkie and Carn Brea Village, to the north Pool, West Tolgus and to the west part of Tuckingmill and Brea."

Both these descriptions are of the modern civil parish of Carn Brea in existence since the municipal reorganization of 1974. Considering its size, this is remarkable. No information on the community before that have been found. It may have been considered to be part of Illogan Civil Parish.
