[edit] Research TipsBurwalde was founded in 1803 as a Mennonite village within the Chortitza Colony. The village was originally settled by German-speaking Mennonite immigrants from Prussia. 1808 census records (in German) can be found in Die Niederländisch-Niederdeutschen Hintergründe der Mennonitischen Ostwanderungen, by B.
