A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Broomhill from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "BROOMHILL, a parish in the [registration] district of Rye and counties of Kent and Sussex; on the coast, near the Ashford and Hastings railway, 4 miles E by S of Rye. Post Town: Rye. Acres: 3,580; of which 755 are water. Population: 102. Houses: 22. It is a member of the cinque port of New Romney; and has no church."
Broomhill was originally an ancient parish in Romney Marsh Liberty in Kent, England. Between 1894 and 1934 it was part of the Rye Rural District, and between 1934 and 1956 part of the Battle Rural District. In 1956 it was absorbed into the civil parish of Camber in Sussex. Since 1974 the area is covered by the non-metropolitan Rother District.
It is assumed that for most purposes Broomhill was always in Sussex.
