A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Brithdir and Islawr Dref from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"BRITHDIR-ISAF and BRITHDIR-UCHAF, two townships in Dolgelley parish, Merioneth[shire]; near Dolgelley. Population: 327 and 140."

A Vision of Britain through Time also reports that the two townships became a civil parish in Dolgellau Rural District in 1894 and it then included the chapelry of Ysbyty Gwanas and the townships of Cefnyrowen, Dolgledr, Garthgynfor, Garthmaelan and Gwanas.

Brithdir is now a small hamlet to the east of Dolgellau, Gwynedd in the community (or parish) of Brithdir and Llanfachreth. (Source: Wikipedia)

Before 1974 Brithdir was located in the historic county of Merionshire. It is no longer a separate civil parish.
