In 1974 Bracknell District took on the territory of the former Easthampstead Rural District (which included the town of Bracknell, a new town developed since World War 2). In 1998 Bracknell District was replaced by Bracknell Forest unitary authority within the ceremonial county of Berkshire. The unitary authority serves as a county council for the area for which it is responsible.

There was no change in the civil parishes making up the three districts.
