From Stewartry of Kirkcudbright Memorial Inscriptions pre-1855, vol 1, by Alison Mitchell, published 1996 by the Scottish Genealogy Society, Edinburgh, Scotland:
- "This undulating pastoral parish lies between the sea cliff and the main road to the west. Through the middle ages until their union in 1670, three small parishes served the three parishes of Borgue (Worgis), Kirkandrews in Deanes, and Senwick (Sennick). Then Kirkandrews and Senwich churches were allowed to decay although thier burial grounds continue in use to the present.
- "A parish church existed at Borgue dedicated to St Nicholas, as early as 1150. The present substantial building was erected in 1814. It, and the crowded burial ground are well maintained at the centre of the small village. The cemetery extension is still in use."
