Blubberhouses (#5 on the map) is now a civil parish and a village located in the Washburn Valley in the in the Harrogate District of North Yorkshire, England. The population as at the 2011 UK census was less than 100 despite its area of 3,500 acres (around 1,400 hectares). As is the policy of the Office of National Statistics, details for parishes this small are combined with those of a neighbouring parish, in this case, Fewston (#12) (formerly its ancient parish). It is situated to the south of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and to the north of a Roman road and Fewston Reservoir on the A59 road which links the town of Harrogate to Skipton (northeast to southwest).

The name of the village derives from the Anglo-Saxon "bluberhūs" = "the house(s) which is/are at the bubbling stream". The Anglican village church of St Andrew's was designed by Edward Buckton Lamb (1806–1869).

Prior to the nationwide municipal reorganization of 1974, Blubberhouses was part of Wharfedale Rural District in West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Historically, it was a township in the ancient and ecclesiastical parish of Fewston in the Claro Wapentake.

  • GENUKI on Blubberhouses. GENUKI indexes only the ancient parishes. Townships that later became civil parishes are listed on a "supplementary page" following the page for the main parish. The articles only deal with events up until 1820. It is worth glancing through the other places listed on the supplementary page to see if it lists any other communities within Blubberhouse township.
  • The FamilySearch wiki for Yorkshire (all three ridings) has articles on all parishes--not just ancient parishes.
  • A Vision of Britain through Time on Blubberhouses.
  • A Vision of Britain through Time provides links to maps of the West Riding, produced by the United Kingdom Ordnance Survey, illustrating the boundaries between the civil parishes and the rural districts at various dates. The location of individual settlements within the parishes is also shown. These maps all expand to a very large scale.
