The Gazetteer for Scotland describes Ardivachar as follows:

"A small crofting township located at the northwest tip of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Ardivachar (Gaelic: Aird a' Mhachair) lies just to the west of Kilaulay, a third-of-a-mile (0.5 km) south of Ardivachar Point."
