Akin is located in Eastern Township near the eastern border of the Franklin County. It was designated as a U.S. Post Office on June 15, 1860 and is still active.[1] The community is comprised of a small number of homes, a school and a church. Akin also has a business or two nearby.

History

Akin Baptist Church was organized on January 14, 1934 and is still in operation. It was first named Akin First Missionary Baptist Church and met in the Akin Townhouse. A church building no longer in use, the former Free Will Baptist Church of Akin, was purchased for the new church.
