Horlings and Albers [5 June 2012]

WUBBE JANS HORLINGS * 27.11.1796 in Smeerling in Holland (that's the place where the Horlings family lived on a farm named the "Horlinghes" from 1450, the farm still exists!) married in Wilsum Bentheim in 1822 to FENNEGIEN GEERTS ALBERS baptised April 14th, 1797 and died after 1886, daughter of GEERT ALBERS AND FENNA ALBERS.

GEERT ALBERS emigrated with 3 children to the USA, probably in 1848, but on March 2 1849 he returned to Holland for the wedding of his daughter GERTIEN with FREERK GEERTS PANJER. Probably on this occcasion he pursuaded his sister FENNEGIEN GEERTS ALBERS and brother-in-law WUBBE JANS HORLINGS to emigrate to the USA too. It is said that GEERT ALBERS worked on the farm of WUBBE JANS ALBERS in Polkton Twp in Michigan. Most likely he also fought, when the already was quite old, in the Civil War. When he died he belonged tot: JG.CO.2 5th Michigan Infantery. After WUBBE JANS HORLINGS died his widow FENNEGIEN remarried on June 2nd, 1865, 65 years of age with MAARTIN DEN BLEIKER of Fillmore County (64 years). Y She survived him too. WUBBE JANS HORLINGS and FENNEGIEN ALBERS had 9 children, but only one daughter FENNECHIEN. She was born on May 23rd, 1836 in Nieuwe Pekela (Holland) and married JAN BREUKER IN 1859. MENSER HORLINGS (the one you alreay know about with his name on the war memorial) was their youngest son. In the Horlings family tree another GEERT GEERTS ALBERS, baptised March 7, 1790, son of GEERT ALBERS and FENNA ALBERTS (yes indeed, Albers and Alberts) is mentioned. His third marriage was on June 18th, 1852 in Holland Township, Michigan USA with ALIDA MENKEN. Also no daughters named Janneche. So if you ask me what the relation is between you Janneche (must be Fennegien) Albers, married to Wubbe Jans Horlings, I would say she was his sister

I also see in that same thread (quoting just the nonliving parts):

Bert Horling (1915-1995)
Mensir Horling (1874-1947)
John W Horlings (1830-born in holland, 1908-death in allendale)

If Jan Horlings died in 1908, where was he in the 1900 census? Please don't say Kalamazoo. --Pkeegstra 15:24, 5 June 2012 (EDT)

I won't dare ;-)--henk 15:41, 5 June 2012 (EDT)

For an explanation of what is in Kalamazoo see Jan's talk page, where we note that his death certificate does not come from Kalamazoo. (But we still have no explanation for where he was in 1900.) --Pkeegstra 17:19, 5 June 2012 (EDT)
