The William Robinson of this Clark County, KY will is the son of John Robinson and Gartry, and not John Robinson's brother, William. William Robinson of Clark County, KY in Sept 1802 appointed Andrew Lewis of Montgomery County, VA to dispose of the property he inherited from his father, John Robinson. See Montgomery County, VA Will Book 1, pp. 145, 146.

Are you saying that the will abstract currently posted on this page actually belongs to Person:William Robinson (174), s/o John Robinson and Gertrude Van Lear?

Yes, but I apparently was wrong. It does appear that this is the will of John Robinson's brother, William. The s/o John Robinson and Gertrude Van Lear - also named William Robinson, and also of Clark County, KY in Sept 1802 appointed Andrew Lewis of Montgomery County, VA to dispose of the property he inherited from his father, John Robinson. It says, in part, "land willed to me by my father John Robertson, Dec. and the said land when so sold my said attorney is hereby authorized to convey in my name..." Montgomery Co. VA Will Book 1, pp. 145, 146.

There is a 1 Jan 1778 deed of sale from in Bedford County, VA from "John Robinson & Gartry his wife of the County of Botetourt" that I would like to add to John Robinson's page (Bedford Co. VA Deed Book 5, p. 537). The property was initially purchased 27 Sep 1756 by John Robinson of Augusta (Bedford Co. VA Deed Book 1, p. 97), so perhaps his father.

Another suggested change is regarding John Robinson's sister, Agnes. There were two women that were named Agnes that married a Rene Leforce. The first one is Agnes Moseby listed in the Douglas Register with her husband and all of their children. Agnes Robinson s/o John Robinson married a Rene Leforce, Jr. on 10 Mar 1774 in Botetourt County. I have a copy of the register, as well as the document with the security/witnesses. I believe the Birth/Death dates currently listed for Agnes (Abt 1725 - Bef 1814) are for Agnes Moseby. The Agnes Robinson who married in 1774 would likely have a birthdate in the 1750s.--Jpetrozzo 23:30, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Ok. Please feel free to add/update your information, explanations, and especially your sources to the relevant Person and Family pages. It will be a great help to future researchers. Best Wishes! --cos1776 15:44, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the encouragement. I've uploaded a copy of the 24 Jan 1778 Bedford County deed of sale involving John Robinson and his wife, Gartry. I'm a bit unclear about where I should post my abstract of the deed. I assume in the notes, but want to be sure.

This land was originally part of 816 acres patented by John Phelps 30 July 1742 (Virginia Patent Book 20, p. 384).

William Walker acquired the land, sold 400 acres to William Calloway on 22 Sep 1755, then on 24 Oct 1755 split the remainder between his three sons: To son James, 100 acres where [William] now lives adjoining son Thomas. To son Philip Walker, 216 acres, land adjoining 400 acres that William sold to William Calloway, and acreage adjoining James and Thomas Walkers’ lines. To son, Thomas Walker, 100 acres. Bedford Deed Book 1, pp. 66-68.

27 Sep 1756 Thomas Walker, Planter and wife Madaline to John Robinson of Augusta 100 acres on North side of Otter River land part of a tract surveyed for John Phelps and conveyed unto William Walker [816 acres, 400 conveyed to Calloway, others to sons] said tract of land given to Thomas Walker by virtue of Deed of Gift. Bedford Deed Book 1, p. 97.

The "John Robinson of Augusta" who purchased the land in 1756 could not be John Robinson, husband of Gartry because he would have been a child at that time. Could the John Robinson of Augusta who purchased the land in 1756 be the parent of the John Robinson who sold the land in 1778?

Philip Walker sold his land to Samuel Drake. On 23 Mar 1762 Samuel Drake Bedford County yeoman and his wife Mary to William Robertson yeoman, for 27 pounds 216 acres surveyed for John Phelps and turned over to William Walker whitesmith then of Lunenburg, 216 acres of which was given by William Walker to son Philip Walker then sold to Drake. Bounded by William Calloway, James Walker, and Thomas Walker (now John Roberson) Witnesses Thomas Overstreet, John Addams, Robert Allen. Bedford Deed Book 1, p. 525.

27 Mar 1775 William Robertson of Botetourt to James Robinson of Cumberland, 216 acres. Bounded by William Walker, James Walkers corner, John Robinson’s line. Bedford Book 5, p. 297.

The relationship between the two John Robinsons, William Robertson of Botetourt, and James Robinson may yield information about the identity of John Robinson's father. Could this James Robinson be the same person who provided security for Agnes Robinson and Rene Leforce's 1774 Botetourt marriage?

A property adjoining the aforesaid lands adds even more intrigue: 13 Nov 1771 Samuel Crockett of Botetourt to Thomas Robinson Book for 100 pounds 200 acres North side of Otter River, George White’s spring, Moses Run. Witnesses Robert Russel, John Heard, Francis Burks. Bedford Deed Book 4, p. 34.

Thomas's land adjoined property owned by James Chastain. The Chastain family and the Leforces have significant history in Henrico, Goochland and Cumberland counties.--Jpetrozzo 21:42, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

You have some options on where to post the text (and posting text is great, because it then becomes "searchable" by the internal WR search engine as well as browser search engines, like Google, etc.).
Some folks create a running list of legal records in the text box of the main body of the page. Some folks create separate Source citations for each record and post the text into the text box in the citation. Either way works fine. hth --cos1776 21:59, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
