Person talk:William Lamar (18)

Watchers

William Bishop Lamar was not a Colonel, it was Willaim Lynch Lamar who was in the Rev. War and late in life, after the war was known as Colonel, but his actual highest rank was Captain in the war. [19 May 2017]

There has long been confusion with these two William Lamars. William Lynch Lamar was born in 1755.

There is a monument to Wm Lynch Lamar (http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:William_Lamar_(27) in Cumberland, Maryland which can be found at the findagrave dot com website. The pension records for Rev. War veterans shows "William Lamar" with a death date of 7 Jan 1838 which is not the death date for Wm Bishop Lamar but is for Wm. Lynch Lamar.

The Society of Cincinnati has in their collection an orderly book of William Lamar. Wm Bishop Lamar is my several times Great-grandfather and when his name has been used to apply to SAR and DAR they accept that he took an oath of allegiance but they show no Rev. War service. Tom Lamar Coughlin--Tlc356 23:28, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
