Person talk:William Huston (4)

POD [6 October 2016]

This article currently gives the POD for William Huston as Clinch River, Lee Co., Virginia, United States , this implies that it is for the William Houston who established Houston's Fort about 1774, and later moved westward into the Powell Valley. I find the connection to Samuel Huston and Isabella Sharon is questionable. The birth date of 1729, death date of 1803 corresponds to dates sometimes given for William Huston of Catfish Creek in Washington County, PENNSYLVANIA. He may or may not be connected to Samuel Huston and Isabella Sharon. This looks like a confusion, perhaps caused by the fact that Catfish Creek and Hustons Fort were both in a county named "Washington"---one in PA and the other in SW VA. I'm assuming this card is intended for William of Catfish Creek, since that William Huston could plausibly be considered to be a son of Samuel and Isabella, and most of the data shown here seems to match him. That probably means we need a different card for William Huston founder of Huston's Fort. I'll check to see if one exists, though I do not have much data on him---other than the fact that he is probably in the same Mill Creek Hundred Lineage as William of Catfish Creek. However, the children of the William Huston shown on this card seem to refer to persons in SW VA. ---

After looking this over abit, I've concluded that there are several cards on Werelate that have mixed and matched data associated with a William Houston and his family, and seem to point to a SW VA connection. Its not possible to say what the original authors intent was in terms of who the cards were intended to represent, but it doesn't look to me that any clearly represent JOhn Houston who established Houston's Fort in 1774. To simplify matters I'm creating a new card for him, andincluding that in the Houston Tapestry.

There were two William Hustons in Washington County, PA in the 1790 federal census. I'm wondering how you differentiated records between the two men.--Tribe 14:08, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Footnote #2 Williams birth. According to his granddaughter's biography (Jane B. Prall - Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania) she states that her grandfather William was born and married in Ireland. He & his wife (unk) came together. She lists the children so I know for sure that this woman belongs to 'Catfish" William Huston.

>> Jane B. Prall wrote a piece on Colin R. Prall in the Commorative Biographical Record of Washington County. There is no mention of William Huston. Nor can I find any mention of William Huston in the entire volume.--Tribe 13:31, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
