Person talk:William Hall (27)

Logging research notes for William Hall (27) [17 August 2021]

There have been some good notes added to this profile over the years that help to correct some of the information traditionally associated with this William Hall (27). These notes are currently located on the main page and are confusing, so I am going to update the page and move some user comments to this Talk page in keeping with WR policies. There are also some dead links and user trees included which I will also update. It is very helpful to discuss the research, so I hope that some discussions about this Hall family will follow on the Talk pages for these family members. --cos1776 21:47, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Regarding "Ancestors of Jane (Jean) Buchanan" @ rootsweb [20 August 2021]

Ancestors of Jane (Jean) Buchanan was posted to rootsweb sometime around the mid-2000s and included family tree information on the William Hall / Jean Mitchell family with no source citations. Some of the family tree text from rootsweb was cut and pasted to this page for William Hall.

On 22 Jul 2010, WeRelate User:CindyDriscoll commented on the text as follows:

Don't want to step on anyone's toes...but the information below regarding the Hall's - specifically Thomas & Mary and their son who married a Jean Mitchell - this seems to be information taken from the Hall Story written by George von Kromer and is included in the book, "Places Near the Mountains," by Helen R. Prillaman.
I have taken this story apart and found that 90% of this story is bogus. There was NO Andrew who inherited a "cabin" and there are no deeds filed in the Botetourt Co, VA courthouse for this.
A child of James Hall & Jean Mitchell - Ruth Hall - if Jean Mitchell Hall was born about 1710 - there's no way she could have a child born in 1809 - Jean would have approx. been 99 years old.
Andrew Hall did not die in Catawba. Catawba is NOT located in Rockbridge County. Catawba is presently in Roanoke Co., VA (before was Montgomery Co., before was Botetourt, before was Augusta)
Even though William's (who d. 1773) will was presented/probated in Botetourt Co. Court - it was because the area he lived in at that time was part of the County of Botetourt. William Hall did not move - the boundary lines for the County did, when the new Rockbridge Co., VA was formed.
William Hall lived his the majority of his life in the Lexington area of what is now Rockbridge County, on or near Whistle Creek. He was instrumental in the forming of Monmouth Church. This area is NOwhere near Catawba and that Wm. & his family did not live or reside in Catawba at any time. Cindy Hall Driscoll - 7/22/10

Addendum: I have created MySource:Cos1776/History of the Cabin-Fort, a MySource page for Prillaman's story mentioned above and the good analysis that Cindy had posted to an old message board in 2001. Please feel free to comment and make corrections or updates concerning that story on the MySource page. --cos1776 18:51, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

Regarding "Rockbridge County Pioneers" @ rootsweb [26 December 2021]

Rockbridge County Pioneers - William Hall and Family was posted to rootsweb by Janet Cowan sometime around the mid-2000s and included family tree information on the William Hall / Jean Mitchell family with no source citations.

Corrected Origin of William Hall.
William Hall has been presumed by many to have been born in 1702 in County Antrim, Ireland. However, as of July 2021, incontrovertible DNA evidence shows that he was from Gloucestershire, England. He (and other men of his family) came to the Colonies (most likely entering in the Carolinas) to fight for King and Country in the French & Indian War and the Revolutionary War. William and his wife eventually settled in the area that is now Rockbridge County, VA. He was married to Jean/Janet/Jeanette ?(her maiden name has not been proved) and had several children: Andrew, Agnes, John, Isabella, William, Nathaniel, Samuel, and James. His wife was born around 1710. William died in 1773. Both he and his wife are buried in the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery, which is located in Rockbridge Co., VA.
William Hall's daughter Isabella Hall married Maj. James Patton Buchanan. (ed. - They had a daughter named Jane/Jean Buchanan who married James Parks. They had a daughter named Isabel Parks who married Samuel Adkins Keith.
The above content has been corrected by Catherine L. Hall Waltz, PhD from the text prepared an posted by a distant cousin Janet Hall Cowan Buchanan some time ago at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jlopp/hall2.htm

Question - How can we access and post these DNA results on William Hall's page? --cos1776 12:47, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Cos1776 Re: William Hall I will reach out to the individual in the UK who has been a match to my father's DNA since dad was first tested (FamilyTreeDNA) in 2015. I intend to ask if he is willing to share his research with me or direct me to the source materials he has used.

We have DNA connections to two Hall families in Salt Lake City, Utah one of which matches my father's DNA almost as if they were brothers. I believe that they said that with the 2 differences in the DNA it would be extremely unlikely that they were not related. The other match come from a brother of our direct line to William Hall.

My father, Ronald W Hall's Y-Haplogroup= I-BY45689 [Dad's new matches kind of initiated a new twig or branch in the I-M223 Y-Haplogroup] and his Y-DNA Kit#410556 is on FamilyTreeDNA.org

What do you think of that? Will these bits of information be helpful in the meantime? Clw0505--Clw0505 23:02, 26 December 2021 (UTC)
