He first appears in a Virginia militia of 1776 under Capt. Michael CRESAP. Also in this unit is Private, Michael CRESAP, Jr. He signs as an heir with Archibald WIGGINS (husband of Mary FLINT) in the Estate of Joseph FLINT. Archibald owned land called the Grassey Cabin in Washington County, MD. Uriah signed an Oath of Allegiance in Washington County, MD in 1778, along with John and William WIGGINS in the returns of the Worshipful William YATES. Also signing this Oath: Phillip WIGGINS, son of Archibald. Joseph and John FLINT, probably sons of the elder Joseph FLINT. Uriah appears in Natchez (now MS) in 1780. A revolt by the English Tories living there occurred in 1781. Uriah disappears for 14 years, till he resurfaces across the MS River at the Post of Rapide in the Spanish Province of Louisiana. During this 14 year span, Daniel K. WIGGINS is born 1785 in MD. Uriah's family and Daniel K. WIGGINS lived within 20 miles of one another in LA.
