Not likely son of John Lane and Elizabeth Howell [1 January 2014]

I am unlinking Timothy Lane from parents John Lane and Elizabeth Howell, as their is no evidence for their having a son named Timothy (or any children at all).

I can find no easily available online resource providing the ancestry of Timothy Lane or of his supposed son Gallant Lane. The only hint is the 1721 will of Galent Lane of Maryland (Maryland Calendar of Wills, vol. 5), mentioning his brothers Timothy and John and their father John, but (apparently) no wife or children, suggesting he was unmarried. It is possible that one of the brothers (Timothy or John) named his son Gallant after his deceased brother. This will proves that there was a Timothy Lane in Maryland (or, at least, about to inherit land in Maryland) in the appropriate time period whose father was John, and who it would be reasonable to suppose might name a son Gallant. Assuming the Galent Lane who wrote the will was a young man in 1721, their father John would likely be at least a generation younger than the John Lane who married Elizabeth Howell.

I am not adding a new record for John Lane, father of this Timothy Lane, as I do not have enough information to establish the lineage from Gallant Lane (which is presumably the purpose of this page). If someone has this evidence, please add sources and create the page for Timothy's father (and brothers). Note that this is not my area of research; I am simply cleaning up some records related to a reported possible duplicate.--DataAnalyst 21:19, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
