Do not merge this page with Person:Thomas Townsend (40). The Lynn VRs, Vol. 1, p. 401 show two Thomas Townsends born on the exact same date, one to Thomas and Mary, one to John and Mehitable. John's son died 1716. (E.g. EIHC, Vol. 20, p. 40). The son of Thomas is problematic. First, Thomas had an earlier son Thomas and there is no death date for the first Thomas. Given that the second Thomas was born in 1692, it could be the first one died in the 1690 Expedition against Canada (or otherwise), being about 23 in 1690. However, there is also no marriage or death known for the second son (EIHC, Vol. 20, p. 38) begging the question: did he really exist or was he misrecorded under the wrong parents? His father's will mentions his children without naming them, his parents are old in 1692, their first child born in 1665, and no son Thomas or heirs of any son Thomas is mentioned in his brother Caleb's probate. So it is not unreasonable to wonder if this 2nd son Thomas is fictitious. More research is needed. Until then, the Lynn VRs should take precedence. --Jrich 04:14, 3 September 2017 (UTC) |
