Too few records [4 October 2021]

The records on this man and his family are few and, as often is seen, engenders secondary coverage that may or may not be guesses. Source:Wood, E. Henry. Genealogy of the Wood Family : The Solomon and Eunice Wood Branch seems to have gathered its information from correspondence with descendants, and though much of it cannot be confirmed. it generally fits. It may be incomplete, of course.

There is a report of the DAR that gives Stephen Wood too wives, Jane Philllips and a marriage in 1761 to Abigail Fox. (here). The Dracut VRS show this woman marrying "William Wood" on the given date. So this appears incorrect. William and Abigail have several children starting in 1762 in Dracut.

Dracut records show Stephen Jr. marrying Mrs. Abigial Fits in 1774. It is not known that Stephen had any son Stephen, nor does anyone else in Dracut have a son Stephen that would be of age to marry in 1774. Nor does there seem to be room in Stephen's family to squeeze an unrecorded son Stephen that would be old enough to marry in 1774. So this appears to a be a person that moved from elsewhere, and it does not appear to be this Stephen.

Dracut records show Stephen (i.e., no Jr.) marrying Abigail Chamberlain in 1783. There is no death record for Jane or Abigail, and no death record or probate for Stephen. so we cannot rule Stephen Sr. out, nor alternately, neither can we rule out that he died and Stephen Jr. remarried now promoted to just plain Stephen.

Other than those shown to Stephen and Jane, there are no births recorded in Dracut to a Stephen until the 1810's when Solomon's son Stephen and wife Chloe have children. In patricular, none of these various marriages to different Abigails show any children. --Jrich 18:34, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
