proof of parentage [6 July 2012]

It is always disconcerting when a woman has a death date late in life and no marriage and no source of death shown. It almost always indicates copying from a source, and either the copying or the source did not put in the effort to verify her marital status, a requirement needed to show the death date is indeed hers.

On top of that the birth in "1739" is close to Moses birth in Sep of 1738. It would only work if it occurred near the very end of 1739, but inconveniently, only the year is given. The birth is not listed in the vital records of Newbury like the other children in this family.

Then, too, no Sarah is listed in this family by David Pillsbury's Pillsbury Family.

The death date is shown as 5 May 1806 in Berlin, VT. Fortunately a 1919 law required town clerks of VT to canvas their cemeteries and there is a pretty complete record of Vermont deaths. These records are found at familysearch.org [1] and one is found for Sarah Bayley who died 5 Mar (not May) 1806 in Berlin, VT, wife of Stephen Bayley. Could this be who is intended? One must suspect so.

This Sarah married Stephen Bayley in Newbury on 3 Oct 1759. She is age 71 at death, making her birth be about 1735, before these parents were married. Thus she does not appear to belong to this family. --Jrich 15:32, 6 July 2012 (EDT)
