Elizabeth is not Sarah [26 March 2015]

Elizabeth and Sarah are not used interchangeably, a good indication identifying Luther's wife as Elizabeth Smith Peabody is an error.

One passage in the History of Parsonsfield refers to Luther Brown's wife as Elizabeth Peabody of Salem. However, it says they married in 1786, but the intentions found in Danvers is for 1789 and is explicitly "Salle Peabody". Apparently not well-researched, and hence misleading to people relying on it, if this page was (can't tell, no sources).

The given birth date of 2 Apr 1767 is found in Salem for Elizabeth Smith Peabody, "w. Joseph". Obviously it did not say "w. Luther". Further this notation tells us it was recorded during adulthood, and so, most likely, that Elizabeth Smith Peabody is her married name. The records are pretty easy to trace back and verify that Elizabeth Smith, b. 2 Apr 1767, m. Joseph Peabody. So this has nothing to do with Luther Brown's wife.

Meanwhile, the Peabody Genealogy lists among the children of Samuel Peabody and Ruth Trask, Sarah m. Luther Brown. Their daughter Betsey m. John Kieff.

The History of Gorham lists the children of Samuel Peabody, who moved there about 1773, with Sarah as #5, while #7 Anna is b. 1767. If this is birth order (not sure how this source would know as it states "no record of the births of his children", but it does match the largely dateless birth order shown in the Peabody Genealogy), this would imply Sarah was actually born in the neighborhood of 1762, maybe earlier. --Jrich 17:49, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
