[add comment] [edit] Parents [11 October 2016]It simply does not make sense that Sarah b. 1761 is born to a couple who married in 1767. An amusing query on this very issue may be found here. It is amusing because, as pointed out by the first reply, they lend too much credence to a bunch of books written by people who, by all appearances, have no more (or even less!) knowledge than the author of the post. The suggestion that Dorothy is simply the second wife (suggested in the post) is a classic case of throwing out an obviously wrong statement and yet keeping all the other stuff that came from the same unreliable source that has already been refuted. Clearly Jonathan Collins b. 1739 did not marry Elizabeth Prescott in 1751, so Dorothy is not a second wife. There are two Jonathan Collins, and Sarah is the daughter of the other Jonathan Collins, the one who did not marry Dorothy Webster. Presumably it is Jonathan Collins and Elizabeth Prescott, they residing in Kingston, by all appearances, at the time, and there are several children born before and after Sarah that probably all belong in this family (i.e., Joseph, Jacob, etc.) While this can't be proved in the strict sense, since the mother is not named on the birth record, it has not been contradicted by any records yet, which the previous parents clearly were, no matter how many books choose to print such myths. Perhaps some descendant might wish to do the work of trying to track down a will or various deeds, etc., to see if more evidence might be found there. --Jrich 19:38, 11 October 2016 (UTC) |
