Disputed lineages [31 March 2009]

This appears to be an erroneous combination of at least two different people by the name. One born at Dedham, 13 Oct 1641 living until 25 October 1691, the son of Henry. Another, baptized 11 Jul 1641 at Hingham lived until 27 Mar 1696/97 at Eastham. The latter Samuel Smith having married but once, to Mary Hopkins of the Mayflower Stephen Hopkins line.

I do not have all the information about all of these Samuel Smiths, but the evidence about two of them seems somewhat clear, and in order to allow their research to go forward, it is necessary to separate the data for the different Samuel Smiths. I hope in the future, given the nature of researching anybody named Smith, that people will proceed carefully and annotate their data with source citations.

The Samuel Smith baptized at Hingham 11 Jul 1641, moved to Eastham, and m. Mary Hopkins is Person:Samuel Smith (16).

The Samuel Smith born Dedham 13 Oct 1641, son of Henry, is Person:Samuel Smith (75).

The Samuel Smith that is part of Family:Samuel Smith and Mary Thurston (1) is Person:Samuel Smith (272). I assume he is the one who is the son of Family:John Smith and Unknown (24) since the other two Samuel Smiths appear to have strong evidence connecting them to other parents.
