[add comment] [edit] Showing that Samuel Severance was married to Sarah Grant [16 December 2013]Samuel Severance is shown to have died young, but I believe that he lived through 1677 at least, so that he would have lived to be around 40 years of age. I believe that he is the Samuel Severance who married Sarah Grant, daughter of Christopher Grant. Christopher Grant lived in the northern section of Watertown near the meeting house and not too far away lived Richard Kimball, Samuel Severance's grandfather. Both Grant and Kimball had land near Fresh Pond per a Watertown map. The couple probably met while Samuel visited his grandparents. A Samuel Severance is shown several times in the Essex County Court records. Found in Essex Court Records Page 166; Salem Quarterly Court; June 1676; Bond, dated June 4, 1675, given by Henry Kemble of Boston to Brimblecomb of Marblehead, fisherman, for 12li. Wit: Thomas Kemble and SAMUELL SEVERANS. Receipt dated Oct. 9, 1675, for 6li. of the foregoing, signed by Phillip (his mark) Brimblecom, for his father. Wit: John Daves and Marke Round. Page 340; Hampton Quarterly Court; Oct. 1677; Benjamin Allin v. SAMLL. SEVERANS. For 2,000 pine boards delivered at Exeter by Moses Gillman, to be delivered at Boston, which had not been received. Verdict for defendant. Robert Dutch of Ipswich sued George Carr of Amesbury for not performing an engagement, dated Dec. 21, 1677 concerning the vessel which William Carr, brother to said George Carr, agreed to build for said Dutch dated Feb. 16 1678; signed by Robert Lord for the town of Ipswich and served by Robert Lord marshal of Ipswich. John Severance and Susannah Severans deposed. Sworn, Mar. 24, 1678-9, before Jo. Woodbridge, commissioner. 29: 1: 1678 Many legalisms and names, then in William Carr's account of what he had of Robert Dutch in 1677 there is listed: to moni sent by Samuell Savaranc, 10s 29: 1: 1678. (Robert Dutch was Samuel Severance's uncle by marriage, being married to Mary Kimball, Abigail Kimball Severns sister.) From Records of the Suffolk County Court, 1671-1680 John Parmiter plaint. agt Samuel Severans Deft in an action of debt of twenty pounds due by bill bearing date the 24th October, 1676, under the hand and Seale of said Severans to bee paid in currt mony of New England or merchantable boards at thirty five shillings per thousand with all other due damages &c. . . .The Jury . . . found for the plaint. one quarter part of the Sloop increase being Forfiture of the bill & costs of Court Eighteen Shillings two pence. Execution issued. 11th July 1678 Deed transfer from Samuel Severns and Sarah Severns to Brimsdon, conveyed "all that small parcel of land lying and being at the south end of the town of Boston High Merryes Point, bounded south by Roger Rose, west by upland, and east by low water, 1-16-1672." Recorded 4-16-1672, (PRMA-Suffolk County). Samuel died relatively young and Sarah remarried to Thomas Sylvester after 5-9-1694 (Torrey p661) (Bond p260, 425, 932) Roger Rose was married to Sarah Grant's sister, Abigail Grant, so for a time the sisters probably lived as neighbors.--Jaykaymc 05:09, 16 December 2013 (UTC) |
