Person talk:Sampson Lennard (1)

Recent changes [6 September 2013]

Hi. I was wondering about the point of some of the recent changes to this page. For example the spelling of the surname was changed from "Lennard" to "Leonard", which is fair enough if there is a good cite for it, but the cite to the fairly authoritative History of Parliament site given is for the spelling "Lennard." (I realize that spellings were not standardized in the period in question. I just feel that a cite should not be given for a fact which it actually contradicts.) Also, what is the point of adding a link to the poorly-sourced Rootsweb site? It diminishes rather than adds to the page.

One other thing I am wondering about. A link to the History of Parliament article has been added in addition to the previously existing link which was embedded (if that is the right word) in the title of the article. It seems to me to be neater just to have the embedded link, but maybe I am just ignorant of what is considered to be the best practice with such things. I have been copying the format of other Werelate pages which looked good to me, but if what I am doing is substandard, I would like to know, since I have been doing it a lot.

Thanks to anyone who responds.--Werebear 19:16, 6 September 2013 (EDT)

I've taken it up with the user on their home page - I'm hoping they'll be interested in learning more about what we're trying to do, both here at WR and more generally in these older spaces (as well as some we don't). I'm just waiting for a response now. --jrm03063 19:31, 6 September 2013 (EDT)

Clean up [18 November 2013]

OK, I am going to clean up the page a little. I am removing the superfluous Wikipedia snippet, adjusting the link to the History of Parliament site to be consistent with the way that site usually seems to be linked to on this site, and removing the link to the Rootsweb site, which, as far as I can see, is not supporting anything. (Also, the link seems to be pointing to a a footnote which is a reference to a self-published work -- if it has ever been published at all. Google turns up nothing meaningful on the "author".) Don't mean to ruffle any feathers -- just want to improve the page. Feel free to start a discussion, anyone, if you disagree with something I am doing.--Werebear 03:10, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
