Incorrect family connection [28 January 2013]

I think this connection has been made in error as the Children after Roelf were all born in Nieuwe Pekela, Groningen, Netherlands. The Roelf connected to this family was born in 1867.--Parkave777 19:44, 25 January 2013 (EST)

I suspect you are right. It looked like a good fit at the time. And even the twins born 1889 were plausible, since I do know of families that made the back-immigration. But the fact that he is bracketed by children a year before and a year after both born in Nieuwe Pekela doesn't leave much time for a trip to America and back. P.S. The WeRelate preferred date format does not use leading zeroes on the day field. (The only leading zeroes are for years before 1000 AD/CE.

OK...I am very confused about who you are looking for here. You have in source1 Roelf & Nettie. If you look at that census from 1900 you will notice they are married there. Source2 1910 census they were unable to read and the Ti* stands for Nettie again Roelfs wife. Yes, in both of these it shows birth of Apr 1876, which is correct with Source3. Source4 is for a different Geert Meyering and his parent Jon R Meyering & Hendrika, that Geert was born 15 Dec 1874. The source for that is "Michigan, Births and Christenings, 1775-1995," index, Geert Meyering, 15 Dec 1874; citing reference , FHL microfilm 964502.--Parkave777 08:03, 26 January 2013 (EST)

This person & Birth date don't seem to be matching up with the parents you have changed them to. Please note above comment with the source for birthday of 15 Dec 1874. The other source you are using shows this persons birth of 16 Apr 1876 and according to the census of 1900 he was born Apr 1876 which coincides with his age at the time of 24 as that census date was 6 Jun 1900. yes to some extent they are different people in that the people we are looking at are 2 different people. As I know you are familiar with there not being surnames used prior to 1812 it gets kind of messy and hard to figure out. There were multiple Geert Meyering who were also Roelf or Ralph. And then to complicate the matter there were Meyerings in the Netherlands and Meijerings in the Netherlands. Then the Meijerings who immigrated may have had names changed to meyering because of the way the name was pronounced. If the one you are looking for is Roelf from 16 Apr 1876 let me know. Thanks for the help! We've connected Geert to his ancestors in the Netherlands, but despite a few breadcrumbs, I've not been so successful with Roelf. It would also be great to find Cooper's first husband and ancestors in the Netherlands. An Ancestry Tree suggests her name before Americanization was Kuipers, her first husband was Hein Herrema (1887), and her parents were Aldert Kuipers (1864) and Stijntje Vonk (1867). --Pkeegstra 09:58, 27 January 2013 (EST)
