Person talk:Robert Edmiston (4)

Bill [26 March 2009]

I have the personal data chart filled out on the family page --Dlbradley1 22:52, 23 March 2009 (EDT)

That would be the standard vita in the left hand column? I'm adding data to the Personal Data table in the narrative, but that's a different beast. Q 19:17, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

This is what I had on the family page I was talking about ....

OK, that's good---I'm really really glad that you are doing this. I'll stop fiddling with the Vita Table, and when you're done with this, just insert it for what I've got. A couple of points: The information, such as DOB, etc, needs to go in the column marked "Datum". The column marked "Source/Basis/Comment" is for the explanation of where the data comes from. We need to be pointing back to the original sources. Howard's data is undoubtedly very good, but he's pointing to his own sources. This will be better if we point to the original sources as well---assuming we've seen them. If not, then point to the original source and include the phrase "fide Howard V. Jones, personal communication" You can then even include a link to something that he's provided us and stored in say the digital library, say fide Howard Jones, or just link to the item vz Obituary Robert Emondson.

What I'm striving for is a system where folks don't have to take our word for things, or even Howards word, but can go to the items themselves to verify what ever it is that we say is contained there. ("verification" doesn't necessarily mean that its "true", just that the information is really there. Making sure that its true (validation) is another process entirely---but the first step is verification.) Q 07:44, 25 March 2009 (EDT)

Thank you for catching my mistake... I do agree with what you are saying will try and do this, --Dlbradley1 11:57, 25 March 2009 (EDT)

Howards Input [23 March 2009]

I've placed the standard SWVP format around Howard's input via Don Bradley. I've used the main narrative for the "overview" section, though it may be that this is better suited for an analysis page, with a summary of Robert 4's life then placed in the overview. The set of data records will probably be transferred out into a notebook for cross referencing as needed. Key individual items will probably make their way into the "Personal Data Table" under comments. Ultimately, the idea here is that every element of the personal data table is backed up either by a rationale, or by specific original source data. The idea is that even if we have something wrong, we know what everything is based on. That way, those who come later can see why we think what we think---and perhaps sometimes where we went wrong and why. Everyone stands on someone elses' shoulders. I especially liked the way Howard includes in his notes as the person who found certain records. Whether we know each other or not, we all build on each others work, and in that way go farther faster. Q 20:53, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
