Person talk:Rachel Woodworth (1)

The source cited on this page is a private Ancestry tree (so not accessible to the general user and I cannot tell what it says or intends) by a user named acorn3102, possibly the same person that posted it here. The birthplace of Westchester, NY, does not match the residence of her alleged parents Family:Benjamin Woodworth and Hannah Unknown (1) in Lebanon, CT. Further, no daughter Rachel is listed in her father's will of 1726, nor is such a daughter listed in Source:Woodworth, William Atwater. Descendants of Walter Woodworth of Scituate, Mass or Source:Patten, Jennie M. Pratt Book or Source:O'Neill, Donna. My American Family, all of which cover this family. Another website says Rachel Woodworth b. Westchester, NY, married Jonathan Owens, the son of Jonathan Owens and Mary Brewster, but TAG, p. 31:37, says the wife of that Jonathan "may have been the Rachel Owen of Westchester County, N.Y., the administration of whose intestate estate was given to Moses Wayman, 12 May 1768." In other words, there is no record that his wife's name is definitively Rachel, that name is merely a guess based on a death in the same area at an appropriate time frame; nor any mention of a maiden name of that Jonathan's wife given in the article; but clearly the wife of this Jonathan Owen was alive long enough to marry, so should have been mentioned in her alleged father's will if she really belonged to Family:Benjamin Woodworth and Hannah Unknown (1). Further investigation of the website shows that it lists five children in this marriage, corresponding exactly to the five children assigned to Family:Joseph Owen and Ruth Woodworth (2) by NEHGR, "Descendants of John Owen of Windsor, Conn.", p. 83:47-8, and the birth of the only recorded child of Joseph and Ruth, son Jonathan (which is found in the Lebanon Vital Records of the Barbour Collection, Vol. 22, p. 126) matches the birth date given on this website for the son of Jonathan and Rachel, indicating confusion by the author of this website. The simplest explanation is that the website is apparently confusing Joseph and Ruth Owen with Jonathan Owens and his wife, possibly named Rachel. (Incidentally, the NEHGR articles, p. 83:56, lists a Jonathan Owen born in Lebanon to different parents, known as Jonathan Owen of Sharon, but he marries 1740 Patience Vallance, d. 1759, and bears no resemble to the information on this website.) I am merging this page for Rachel Woodworth with Ruth Woodworth. Fortunately, there is no attached Family page so this is all that is needed to clean up this apparent error. --Jrich 14:19, 1 December 2012 (EST)
