Questions [16 June 2018]

General

I am trying to learn how to use this site properly. I have read many instructions and watched the videos. Reading instructions is one thing, understanding them is another thing for me as I am a visual understander, not a word understander.

I uploaded a tiny gedcom to practice with. Right off the bat, I merged the Nicholas Christopher in my gedcom with the Nicholas Christopher (3) and ended up with Nicholas Christopher (2). 2 lost all the info that Delijim had for 3. (BTW I tried the Sandbox but I get page does not exist.)

So, I used the History to compare the older page to one for my now 2 person. I copied what was in old 3 and pasted it into notes for 2 so I would not loose all that info.

This morning I read some more instructions and came across Headers. I copied the notes from 3 and put them in the screen where you can make headers with the ‘== x ==‘. That got the info back where it belonged but all on one line. So I looked at a page in Edit that looked like 3 used to look like. Then I edited my 2 to look like the good page. Then I had 2 looking like the old 3. After that I added all of the items from 1695 up to where Delijim started in 1736.

What I Want to do now

There are 8 of us living Christopher’s who have been Y DNA tested to haplogroup R-FGC29470. If I put all descendants of Nicholas into one gedcom file there are 1800+ people and it would be a nightmare to review that.

I can create a gedcom file for the other 7 Y tested men up to Nicholas then make one new gedcom that combines all 8 using my FTM program.

Now to upload that new file, I would have to delete the little gedcom I have on Werelate now. If I delete this initial file, will anything on the People and Family pages be lost? I have added two children, Elizabeth Ann and Robert Christopher as children of Nicholas and Ann, as well as all the children of William and Elizabeth Haley Christopher. I think I added all of David and Elizabeth Gregg Christopher’s children too.

Sources [16 June 2018]

I have emails between me and other Christopher’s in PDF format. Can I have a heading ‘==Email research==‘ and copy those emails into Werelate? Most of the emails state the research of those people in various courthouses and in Library of Congress.

Things I think are wrong [16 June 2018]

I do not want ruffle anyone’s feathers, offend anyone. I have a solid source that says Nicholas Christopher was 12 years old in 1695 but it is listed as an alt DOB. The original DOB comes from a book written back in the 1930’s. That book is full of mistakes but those mistakes were the best known facts back then.

So, I want to remove the DOB of 1670 and make 1683 be the DOB based on the court record of him being judged to be 12 years old in 1695.

Thank you for any help and advice. David M. Christopher--Chrstdvd 19:57, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
