Person talk:Nathaniel Merrill (3)

Is the origin in the Merrill Memorial still considered correct? [1 August 2013]

I've held off on completing the first couple of generations of the Merrills because I was unable to determine if the origin given for Nathaniel in the Merrill Memorial is still considered correct. Other than a brief mention of his wife Susanna (---) (Who cannot be a Wolterton), Anderson doesnt mention him, nor any recent work that I can find. I have also seen baptisms given for some of Nathaniel's sons gives on some unsourced online trees, that are not mentioned in the Memorial. Jaques or anyone else, have you any idea?--Daniel Maxwell 00:22, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Probably the best endorsment I have seen for the line is in the 'Comstock-Thomas ancestry of Richard Wilmot Comstock', which was assited in part by Jacobus. Although he accepts the identification of Nathaniel's wife as a Wolterton without comment, the rest of the Merrill line in England is expanded by two more generations.

Baptisms of children of Nathaniel Merrill [1 August 2013]

Also, online I see references to some baptisms for the children of Nathaniel Merrill in Lawford England. Searching for a source for these, this is the best I can find:

..in an issue of Heritage Quest. From the look of it, it seems plausible, but I dont have access to this and do not know if there is any further information. Could use some help here if anyone knows.--Daniel Maxwell 04:49, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Thanks for the heads-up. I just put this on my to-do list for my next visit to the New York State Library, which is not likely to happen until at least October. As a Merrill descendant, I'm definitely interested, and it appears from the snippet on google books that the article also has some discussion of the fascinating Wolterton will.--jaques1724 10:34, 1 August 2013 (EDT)
Good to hear, cousin (I am also a Merrill descendant, through son John). I have enough to finish the English ancestry, but not that article for the baptisms. I've added them back to the children's pages, but they will be left unsourced. I wasn't aware that the Merrill line had been 'confirmed', though it was by a somewhat obscure book. The presense of the baptisms near the theorized origin of Nathaniel and John Merrill makes it even more plausible. Shame I didn't know the source of it until last night.
