Using censuses for sources [3 August 2020]
1. Quote from the census for the whole family in the large box under Source. Type out the whole quotation from the census microfilm image into some notemaking software (I use Simplenote, but there are many others) and paste it in the page for each member of the family.
2. Use the Place Box for the name of the parish in which the family lives. This allows the family to fall into that place in our database. In this case, Leyland was the name of the registration district, but it was not part of the placename.
3. There is no need to quote the same source more than once, even if you want to use it for different facts.
4. Use "Census" rather than "Residence" to show the type of entry.
5. (And this is something I have not done for you.) Copy the Source Citation from Ancestry. This is given in italics at the bottom left of the page for the person. It is the formal reference to the location in the census registers. It will be the same for every member of a household. This should go in the box titled: Volume/Pages.
6. Fill the box titled Record Name with Reg'n Dist: ----, Sub-reg'n dist: ----, Enum District: ##. The information to fill the blanks is above the list of inhabitants of the house.
7. Copy the address for the household from the left side of the census microfilm image. Copy the details for each person as you find them.
