Not Mary Bennett nor Mary Cornish [16 June 2022]

Some sources state, without citing any evidence, that Mary (or Mercy) the wife of the second Samuel Sturtevant was the widow of an unknown man surnamed Cornish and the daughter of William Bennett of Plymouth and Salem. William Bennett's nuncupative will of 20 November 1682 states, in part, "… and to my daughter Mary ten pounds to be paid out of the movables as my wife shall see cause, and my will is that my daughter Mary shall live in the house so long as she continues unmarried without disturbance" [EQC 9:77-78], …"

Since the eldest known child of the second Samuel Sturtevant and his wife Mary was Mary, who was born about 1676, married David Bosworth, and died 23 April 1707 in her 31st year, the identification of his wife as the daughter of William Bennett is not supported since this Mary Bennett was still single six years after the birth of the eldest Sturtevant child. --jaques1724 19:01, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
