Person talk:Mary Allen (321)

Need evidence [16 September 2010]

I am detaching this page from Family:Benjamin Allen and Living Unknown (1) because there is no evidence presented to support this connection, and the fact that this person is named "Living" doesn't give one any confidence in the depth of research that went into it.

There is a freepages website that shows Eli Abbott, b. New Braintree 25 Mar 1758, m. Gill 17 Jul 1789 Mary Allen. The New Braintree VRs do show this birth, but the Gill VRs show no such marriage, nor do New Braintree VRs. However, Deerfield VRs show a marriage of Eli Abbot and Eunice Hawks of Shelburn on 28 Feb 1788 (all 3 towns are in Franklin County). Following this to Shelburne VRs, it shows m. Eunice Hawks "at Deerfield" 28 Feb 1788, and then shows a second marriage to Mary Allen 17 Sept 1789. But "History of Greenfield: shire town of Franklin County, Massachusetts" lists a Benjamin Allen of Shelburne as seeing service in the Revolutionary War. This cannot be the Benjamin Allen above (who d. 1770) and so, even if Mary could be shown to be the daughter of a Benjamin Allen, it would still be likely to be a different Benjamin Allen. --Jrich 09:16, 16 September 2010 (EDT)
