Alternate Names [4 okt 2016]

I can say from my own experience. I began by doing it the way you did it. The search would not combine the alternate Given name with the preferred Surname, or other way around. They only showed up in search in the expected way, when I entered the complete alternate name (including the redundant portions). --Jhamstra 16:28, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Can you explain what you mean by "alternate names should be complete names"? I just searched for "Maria Cornelia" (preferred given name) and "Hooyer" (alternate surname) and got Maria's page as the only search result.--Dallan 05:52, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

So I have stripped-out some fields on a few other alt names. After the search indexing gets updated (a background activity) I will see which of them show-up in a search. last time I tried this was several years ago and the search logic may have change since then. --Jhamstra 17:36, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

OK - I have completed my experiments with alternate name searches. It now works in the expected manner, ie combinations of preferred and alternate names show-up as matches. Apparently somewhere in the search logic upgrades of the past few years, this function was improved. When I first started building Person pages on WeRelate the Person search did not work this way.
