Okay. I come from a group of Missouri Edmondsons, that split from Georgia Edmondsons, that split from North Carolina Edmistons, from the Virginia Edmistons, who I think are from the English Edmundsons, by way of Ireland. Consider only the Missouri – Virginia as proven (for now). The Missouri Edmondsons have a will of William Suddereth, mentioning his daughter and William as William and Mary Edmiston. We new about James Blair, but didn't know he was a Tory, which led to much confusion about Col. James Blair of King's Mountain fame and who survived, collecting a pension after 1832. We've been looking for Mary Suddereth Blair. When I created the identity last night I got confused and entered her mother's name of Margaret. We don't know Margaret's maiden name either. The Georgia Edmondsons have William's wife's name as Elizabeth. So possibly her maiden name was Mary Elizabeth Suddereth. If so by the time of her death her full legal name would have been Mary Elizabeth Suddereth Blair Edmiston. But Magaret shouldn't be in there, that was my mistake. If you're knowlegable on Suddereth's please take ownership and change the personality and family obects as you please. Thanks. [add comment] [edit] Margaret [15 December 2009]Hi Dave, I have reservations about the former marriage to a James Blair. Assuming her birthdate is somewhat accurate (abt. 1765), she would have been certainly too young to have had a prior marriage to James who supposedly died in 1780..... (She would have been at most 15???) Perhaps her former marriage was just a story that got mixed up.... More research is needed on this situation.--Delijim 13:30, 15 December 2009 (EST) That's the conclusion that I had reached some time ago. Funny how stories spread. Everything else fits, and it's far simpler for Susannah to have married a Blair. We actually had info suggesting she married a Thomas Blair. She was the oldest child of William and simply married a Blair. When I saw the name Blair in your info I thought maybe the James Blair story was true. Whatever else I think we have matched the right people. The names of Williams children were not given in his 1844 claim. They were listed in Susannah's 1853 appeal, I have a copy but it's clearly stated in the Pension Bureau reply that's much easier to read. I would go with Elizabeth, in these families almost all names are Robert, William, James, Sarah, Mary, Margaret, and Elizabeth. I think they all used nicknames to communicate, but documentation gets confusing. Everybody and his dog in the area got dragged into Susannah's appeal. It was still going on into the 1870's. One of the grievances of the antebellum southern community was the treatment of the southern militiamen in the Revolution. I think the rumor got started concerning Sussanah's appeal long after her death. She must have been the daughter of the famous James's Blair...--Dave E 14:38, 15 December 2009 (EST) |
