The following commentary was removed as not credible:

Ancestral File Number:<AFN> 8WR5-TH REFN: 2586 LDS Vital Records Library shows Abel Butterfield and Mary Farnsworth as the parents of Josiah Butterfield.

This is suspect because Abel's mother is Hannah Farnsworth. It is doubtful that his wife would also be a Farnsworth.

In "The Butterfield Family: Origin & History with Genealogy ca 1500-1980" the Family Group Sheets for Abel Butterfield (page 646 of indexed Family Group Sheets on Microfilm 0488192 shows Abel's wife as Mary Heald and being born in 1745 in Dunstable. This is also shown onthe Family Group Sheet for Josiah Butterfield.

Jean Payton found Mary/Mercy or possible Marcy Heald, born April 23, 1744 in Stow, Middlesex, Massachusetts, the daughter of John and Marcy Heald. She saw this on the NEHGS website to which she subscribes.

FYI: Given her birth date and location in Stow, the best matching marriage on record is to Simon Puffer. Then the fact that they named children John Haile Puffer, and that Marcy's brother Jonas Hale administered Simon Puffer's estate and another brother, Israel Hale, was guardian of two of the children, there is a lot of circumstantial evidence that she married Simon Puffer.
