Research Notes

  • There is currently conflicting information about Lydia's maiden name in the sources posted here. Neither Davis (1870), nor Jacobus (1974) provided proof of their reported maiden names.
    • Research Needed: Find and post evidence to support either one.

Pages 144 and 145 of Jacobus' genealogy of the Merriman family, he writes

"Administration on the estate of Caleb Merriman was granted to the widow Mary 9 Sept 1703 (New Haven Probate, vol. 2, p. 313). On 4 Feb 1740 Lent Munson in behalf of his father Ensign Samll Munson, in right of wife Mary, administratrix of the estate of Caleb Merriman, showed a division of the estate between John Andrews and wife Hannah of Hartford, Eliasaph Merriman, Moses Merriman, Henry Turhand and wife Elizabeth, Waitstill Munson and wife Phebe, and Ephraim Cook and wife Lydia (New Haven Probate, vol. 6, p. 291)."

This seems to adequately identify Ephraim Cook's wife as Lydia, daughter of Caleb and Mary Preston) Munson.--jaques1724 17:18, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
