The ancestry.com tree cited here is private so useless for sharing. Essentially this page has no sources.

The Dedham birth records do not list a Joseph Thurston. They do list a Benjamin Thurston born 8 Jul 1640. Given the proximity of the birth dates of these two people, it seems likely that one of the two does not belong in this family. Given his absence in the town records, I believe Joseph is the outsider. --Jrich 10:02, 9 September 2009 (EDT)

A little looking found a source, which I added. Basically the problem is sloppiness. Somebody listed the baptism as a birth date, resulting into two birth dates that are impossibly too close together. Joseph was baptized 15 Jul 1640, apparently at the same time as his brother Benjamin.

Unfortunately the Thurston Genealogy by Brown Thurston seems to be clueless about numbering of month prior to the 1753 shift to the Gregorian calendar. --Jrich 10:08, 9 September 2009 (EDT)
