Comments left by DataAnalyst: His birth date has been confirmed with sources, and it appears his birth was registered under his mother's maiden name. He was baptized at age 8, at which point his parents were identified as William and Sarah Mitchell. It is possible that his father wasn't William, but only his actual birth record (not just the index) would be able to shed more light on that.
