Person talk:John Woodmansee (2)

John Woodmansee [5 October 2011]

I have a photo of a store in Carrsville, which my grandfather said was owned by his mother's family. He called it the Earles family store. He also said that the family operated a ferry. He passed down a story about the store being a stop on the Underground Railroad and family members ferrying escaped slaves across the river to Illinois. We always thought he referred to the Earles family, but after reading the information here about John Woodmansee, I think the store must be the Woodmansee store, possibly inherited by Mary Emma Woodmansee Earles during my grandfather's childhood. The story was probably passed down through her. Has anyone else descended from the Woodmansee family ever heard this story? Does anyone know if the store is still in Carrsville?--Tammyhensel 22:50, 4 October 2011 (EDT)
